However, magic item properties/effects are not applied automatically. The cloak of protection is a good example. The cloak should provide a +1 to AC and saving throws. For a start, irrespective of the target number, the cloak reduces the chance of a critical hit from 0.05 (1 in 20) to 0.0025 (1 in 400). The chance of a hit (including a critical hit) with the cloak is: $$\begin{align} C&= ((21-t)0.05)^2\\ \end{align}$$ The chance of a hit (including a critical hit) with the bracers is: Chameleon's Cloak Deception 10 No one can notice you or your friends thanks to the concealing cloak of magic you have conjured. Time: 10 minutes Duration: 24 hours Component Cost: 200 gp Market Price: 1000 gp Key Skill: Arcana Chameleon's Cloak is an 10th-level ritual.[Dr366:27] You conceal yourself and up to 8 allies within 5 squares of you, using a combination of camouflage and Cloak of Concealment - Same as above. Alternatively, swap the Cloak of Flies for Maddening Hex. Sort of the same thing, deals damage equal to Charisma Mod, but better for a few reasons. The Cloak is only usable once per short rest. Maddening Hex is usable so long as you can curse the target, which is also at least once per short rest thanks to your Hexblade Curse.
