SMC SMCD3GNV routers include a very basic firewall that helps protect your home network form unwanted access from the internet. Since this firewall blocks incoming connections you may need open a port through it for certain games and applications. This process of opening a port is frequently called The problem with this is that the crappy SMCD3GNV modem/router firmware does not let me add routes back to the other vlan's on the switch. Meaning if I have a vlan dedicated to workstations, it will be able to route out, but the device will have no clue where route the packets back to the workstation subnet/vlan. The new device, gateway, hardware model is: SMCD3GNV From what I've been able to tell it is blocking all of my efforts. We only use Comcast/xFinity for Internet, not for TV, Email or anything else. Getting the Linksys to access the Internet from that new gateway has so far been fruitless.
